I was sitting in a coaches clinic and suprised to hear that no longer is stretching prior to practice considered a good thing. Back in the day, while playing football we did execute a warmup period prior to practice getting started but this was done after the then considered normal static stretch. To hear that the static stretch was now not desired was the new information.
So what is your opinion on this? I understand that these strength and conditioning coaches are certified trainers and I believe them to know their stuff. Is this simply a now better understanding of what athletes need prior to practice or is this an example of science trying to better something and not getting things right?
